Post subject:  ETAP and SKM on same computer: Software Conflict
Hi Everyone,

I have installed SKM and ETAP software on the same computer. The problem i am facing is I can not create short circuit 1/2 cycle report in ETAP, it gives an error "u2lexpo.dll" file missing.

When I uninstall SKM Software the problem is solved and ETAP is able to print the short circuit report.

Please advice a solution to this problem so that i don't have to uninstall SKM.

What Etap ver are you using? Sounds like SKM is resurving the DLL file not allowing Etap access even thought it's not running. Same type of problem Allen Bradly PLC RS Logics creates with tying up RS232 ports even thought it's not running. Etap doesn't play well with other programs. Why would you use both programs?

I think SKM has taken some resources of ETAP but not sure how to fix it. It waste lots of time when every time I have to uninstall and install again. I am using both of them because some clients have there model in SKM and some of them having there model in ETAP. So they want to have there system model in the same software for power system studies.

I have contacted SKM and they told me to contact ETAP. I have contacted ETAP and untill now i have not heard back from them. Hope to get some solution on this.

Another option (to install/uninstall/reinstall) is a virtual machine for each (VMWare or the like).

Etap single user license may not allow virtual operation. I would be willing to bet it doesn't. The easiest way to to run SKM or Etap on another pc. Have you checked to see if the DLL file is actually missing?

I have contacted ETAP and they told me the solution but still it needs uninstall/installation.

1. Copy the u2lstrng.dll and u2lsqrt.dll files from etap program directory to c:\program files\common files\business objects\3.0\bin directory.

2. If the above solution does not work go to control panel and repair ETAP

3. If it still does not work uninstall and install ETAP. :)

Good luck and I bet you, the solution is install and uninstall so approx. 1 hr of your day will be lost just because of stupid software errors.
