Does anyone know the purpose for the note on 130.5(G) in NFPA 70E, where it prohibits the use of table 130.7(C)(15)(c) in specifying PPE categories. As an example, if the IE analysis shows we have 30 cal/cm^2, why is it prohibited to look at this table and know that we need to specify category 4 clothing?

You would use table 130.5(G) as the intent is to dress for the actual IE, since you calculated it. The other table you mention is for risk based analysis only (keeping in mind the bounds/requirements in the footnotes).

There is a loophole you can use. Your company is allowed to create your PPE selection process that uses "Classification" groups similar to the PPE Categories in NFPA70E.
