Post subject:  Ir testing of switchgear

We have people who do ir testing of our main switchgear by testing from the front of the gear, my opinion is that i don't think you can test much from the front. Can we put some type of window or sliding cover on the back cover panel for a better view ? The cover panels are about 3' wide and 7' high. This access would test the wiring connections along with swichgear connections.

Open for any suggestions.

There are several manufactures that make IR windows for this purpose.

What you should do is to place IR windows on anywhere that needs scanning, typically IR windows are a couple of inches and you would need 2-4 windows, they are fairly inexpensive and easy to install, about 300 bucks per window, some IR providers are:

Iris IR
Flir
Gratton Infrared Services
