CSI (the Construction Specifications Institute) publishes the MasterFormat list to standardize the organization of construction specifications. Where does an arc flash spec belong according to this standard? There is a designation for "Overcurrent Protective Device Coordination Study" (26 05 73) which I will probably use. What CSI number does your organization use for arc flash specs? |

FYI, after further googling, it appears that arc flash studies are generally placed in section 26 05 73. |

Matt, we've been using 26 05 70 as a catch-all for our studies (arcflash, coordination, harmonic, short-circuit, load-flow & voltage-drop, power factor correction). if I was starting from scratch though, i'd probably go with 26 05 73. mike |

Matt, We use 29 05 93 APPARATUS COORDINATION, INSPECTION, AND TESTING. Like Gil, we put all the studies in there. Our reasoning is that one company is going to create a model and do all the studies so we may as well save virtual ink rather than repeat the same requirements in different sections. Unless your client has a standard, you could use any section number that makes sense. The CSI titles are a beginning, not an end. |
