| Post subject: | Microgrid simulation model for short circuit and arc flash |
Good morning everyone, I have been discussing with etap and SKM whether or not they would be able to certify an accurate simulation model for a new electric utility 300KW microgrid. Both etap and SKM have not yet replied. There are several relays types that are not in their components library: Relay type Description 37.............................. Under current relay 47.............................. Negative sequence voltage relay 51.............................. Time overcurrent relay 59.............................. Overvoltage relay 79.............................. AC reclosing relay 81o.............................Over frequency relay 81u.............................Under frequency relay. All these relays are bundled together in a Beckwith M3410A control driving a digital control and protective relaying which will choose between a main 1200A CB and a bypass 1200A. I have not studied the circuit in depth because I do not have a contract yet to start this project. There are program for designing microgrid but I have not found simulation program for short circuit and arc flash. My question: Do you know of any simulation program exclusive for microgrid short circuit and arc flash analysis? Any help will be appreciated. JuanA |

Most of the major software companies have short circuit, coordination and arc flash modules already integrated together. Software like Easypower, SKM, ETAP etc. should also have various overcurrent (51) relays already in their data base. Since the other relays you list are not exclusively overcurrent, they will not be found in the software (unless they added something recently). I usually calculate these other relay settings separately. |

I use Etap 7.5.2 and it has Beckwith M3410A relay in it's library along with the devices you listed. I recently did a coordination and SC study for a customer that has Cogen with four 4160v, 2500kW diesel generators burning methane gas from a landfill. The 4160v is stepped up to 13.8kV via xfmr to the utility grid. The PD's are Beckwith M3410A |
