The Journal Magazine from Rockwell has an article called, "Stopping Arc Flash In Its Tracks."

The article discusses a number of equipment design strategies for stopping or reducing arc flash. These include:
  • Shielding Against Arc Flash - building strong cabinets
  • Limiting the Available Current using current-limiting fuses or fast-acting circuit breakers
  • High-Resistance Grounding (resistance grounding system)
  • Arc Flash Relays use photodetectors to detect light from an arc that is starting to form.
